  • Total Time: 60 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

Enjoy a warm and comforting Apple Cinnamon Crisp made with tender apples and a crunchy oat topping. This delightful dessert is perfect for cozy evenings, especially when served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Wash and peel the apples. Use a mix of Granny Smith for tartness and Honeycrisp for sweetness.
  3. Core and slice the apples into thin wedges, about 1/4-inch thick.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples with lemon juice, ground cinnamon, granulated sugar, and salt. Toss until well coated.
  5. Let the apple mixture sit for about 10 minutes to meld flavors and release juices.
  6. In another mixing bowl, combine rolled oats, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, and nutmeg (if using). Stir until well mixed.
  7. Pour in the melted butter and vanilla extract. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs, with some larger clumps for crunch.
  8. Set the topping aside.
  9. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
  10. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly and including all accumulated juices.
  11. Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples.
  12. Bake in the preheated oven for about 35-40 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
  13. If the topping browns too quickly, cover loosely with aluminum foil for the last 10-15 minutes.
  14. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
  15. Scoop portions into bowls and top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  16. For extra flair, sprinkle with additional cinnamon or drizzle with caramel sauce.
  17. Best enjoyed warm, but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat before serving.

Notes

  • For added crunch, mix in chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans into the topping.
  • Consider adding dried cranberries or raisins to the apple mixture for extra flavor and color.
