  • Author: Maria
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x

Description

Enjoy the cozy flavors of fall with this Apple Pie French Toast, featuring thick slices of bread soaked in a spiced egg mixture, cooked to golden perfection, and layered with sweet apple pie filling. Finished with a dusting of powdered sugar and a drizzle of maple syrup, it’s a delightful breakfast or brunch treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices of thick-cut bread (like brioche or challah)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for cooking)
  • 1 cup apple pie filling (store-bought or homemade)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, crack the 2 large eggs and whisk until well beaten.
  2. Add 1/2 cup of milk to the eggs and mix well.
  3. Pour in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and stir to combine.
  4. Sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, mixing until smooth.
  5. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar to the mixture and whisk until well combined. Set aside.
  6. Lay out the 4 slices of thick-cut bread on a clean surface. Optionally, lightly toast the bread for a minute or two.
  7. Dip each slice into the egg mixture, coating both sides thoroughly. Let it soak for about 10-15 seconds on each side.
  8. Place the soaked bread slices on a plate or baking sheet.
  9. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter, swirling to coat the pan.
  10. Carefully place the soaked bread slices onto the skillet, cooking 2 slices at a time.
  11. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes on the other side.
  12. Transfer the cooked French toast to a plate and cover with aluminum foil to keep warm.
  13. To assemble, take one slice of French toast and place it on a serving plate.
  14. Spoon about 1/4 cup of apple pie filling on top. Optionally, sprinkle with additional cinnamon.
  15. Place another slice of French toast on top, creating a sandwich. Repeat for remaining slices.
  16. Dust the top with powdered sugar for presentation.
  17. Serve warm, drizzled with maple syrup. Add whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for an extra treat.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use whole milk or add a layer of cream cheese between the French toast and apple filling.
