Description
This creamy cream cheese frosting is the ideal topping for cakes, cupcakes, and cookies, featuring a smooth texture and delightful vanilla flavor that enhances any dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz (226 g) cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups (480 g) powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (optional, for consistency)
Instructions
- Gather Your Ingredients: Start by gathering all your ingredients. Ensure your cream cheese and butter are at room temperature for smooth blending.
- Beat the Cream Cheese: In a large mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese. Using an electric mixer, beat on medium speed until smooth and creamy, about 1-2 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula.
- Add the Butter: Add the softened unsalted butter to the bowl. Beat on medium speed until fully combined and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. The mixture should be light in color and texture.
- Incorporate the Vanilla: Pour in the vanilla extract and mix for an additional 30 seconds to evenly distribute the flavor.
- Add the Powdered Sugar: Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed to avoid a sugar cloud. Once incorporated, increase to medium speed and mix until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Adjust Consistency: If the frosting is too thick, add 1-2 tablespoons of milk to reach your desired consistency. Mix well after each addition. If too thin, add more powdered sugar.
- Taste and Adjust: Taste the frosting and adjust sweetness or vanilla flavor as desired, mixing well after any adjustments.
Notes
- Frost cakes, cupcakes, or cookies as desired. For cakes, ensure they are completely cooled. For cupcakes, use a piping bag for decorative swirls. For cookies, spread with a knife or pipe for intricate designs.
- Store any leftover frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Allow it to come to room temperature and re-whip before using.
