These homemade beef tacos are flavorful and easy to make, perfect for a quick dinner or a fun gathering. Filled with seasoned ground beef and topped with fresh ingredients like cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes, they are sure to be a hit with everyone!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 small corn tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
  • 1 lime, cut into wedges

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the finely chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until translucent and fragrant.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, stirring frequently.
  3. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook for 5-7 minutes until browned and no longer pink, stirring occasionally.
  4. Drain any excess fat from the skillet to prevent greasy tacos.
  5. Sprinkle taco seasoning over the beef, pour in the water, and stir until well combined. Simmer for about 5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  6. In a separate skillet, heat a small amount of oil over medium heat.
  7. Add one tortilla at a time, cooking for about 30 seconds on each side until warm and slightly crispy. Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate.
  8. Repeat for all tortillas, frying longer for extra crispiness if desired.
  9. Take a crispy tortilla and place it on a plate.
  10. Spoon a generous amount of the seasoned beef mixture into the center.
  11. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the beef.
  12. Add shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes on top.
  13. Finish with a dollop of sour cream and chopped cilantro if using.
  14. Repeat the assembly for the remaining tortillas and filling.
  15. Arrange the assembled tacos on a platter or individual plates.
  16. Garnish with lime wedges for squeezing over the tacos.
  17. Serve with additional toppings like sliced jalapeños, avocado slices, or extra cheese on the side.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add diced jalapeños or a splash of hot sauce to the beef mixture.
  • For a healthier option, consider using lean ground turkey or chicken instead of beef.
