Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup milk
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Zest of 1 large orange
- Juice of 1 large orange
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for drizzle)
- 2–3 tablespoons orange juice (for drizzle)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter or non-stick spray, and optionally line the bottom with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract until smooth.
- Add the orange zest and juice to the butter mixture.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and 2-3 tablespoons of orange juice until smooth. Adjust the consistency as needed.
- Adjust the flavor by adding more zest or juice if desired.
- Once the cake is cool, drizzle the orange glaze over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.
- Allow the drizzle to set for 10-15 minutes before slicing.
- Cut the cake into slices and serve as is or with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
Notes
- For a stronger orange flavor, feel free to add more zest or juice to the drizzle.
- Ensure the cake is completely cool before drizzling to prevent the glaze from melting.
