Easy and delicious sopapillas made with crescent dough, butter, cinnamon, and sugar. A quick and satisfying treat!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (14.1 ounces) refrigerated seamless crescent dough sheet
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- Honey, for drizzling (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Unroll the crescent dough sheet onto the prepared baking dish. Gently stretch it to fit the pan.
- Brush the entire surface of the dough with half of the melted butter.
- In a small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon.
- Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the buttered dough.
- Using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife, cut the dough into approximately 24 squares.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- While the sopapillas are baking, melt the remaining butter.
- As soon as the sopapillas come out of the oven, brush them with the remaining melted butter.
- Sprinkle with any remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Let the sopapillas cool slightly before serving.
- Drizzle with honey (optional).
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- Add a pinch of nutmeg to the cinnamon-sugar mixture for a warmer flavor.
- Use different extracts, such as vanilla or almond, to flavor the dough.
- Top with fresh fruit, such as berries or peaches, for a summery twist.
- Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a decadent dessert.
- For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- If you don’t have crescent dough sheets, you can use regular crescent rolls. Just pinch the seams together to form a sheet before proceeding with the recipe.
- Store leftover sopapillas in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. They’re best reheated in the oven or toaster oven to restore their crispness.
- Experiment with different toppings! Try chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, or even a sprinkle of chopped nuts.
- Sopapillas not puffing up? Make sure your oven is fully preheated and that the dough is not too cold. Cold dough won’t rise as well.
- Sopapillas burning on the bottom? Lower the oven temperature slightly and bake for a longer time. You can also place a baking sheet underneath the baking dish to protect the bottom from direct heat.
- Sopapillas too dry? Make sure you’re using enough butter. The butter is essential for keeping the sopapillas moist and flavorful.
- Sopapillas not sweet enough? Add more sugar to the cinnamon-sugar mixture or drizzle with extra honey after baking.
