  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 24 sopapillas 1x

Description

Easy and delicious sopapillas made with crescent dough, butter, cinnamon, and sugar. A quick and satisfying treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (14.1 ounces) refrigerated seamless crescent dough sheet
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • Honey, for drizzling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. Unroll the crescent dough sheet onto the prepared baking dish. Gently stretch it to fit the pan.
  4. Brush the entire surface of the dough with half of the melted butter.
  5. In a small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the buttered dough.
  7. Using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife, cut the dough into approximately 24 squares.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  9. While the sopapillas are baking, melt the remaining butter.
  10. As soon as the sopapillas come out of the oven, brush them with the remaining melted butter.
  11. Sprinkle with any remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  12. Let the sopapillas cool slightly before serving.
  13. Drizzle with honey (optional).
  14. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Add a pinch of nutmeg to the cinnamon-sugar mixture for a warmer flavor.
  • Use different extracts, such as vanilla or almond, to flavor the dough.
  • Top with fresh fruit, such as berries or peaches, for a summery twist.
  • Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a decadent dessert.
  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  • If you don’t have crescent dough sheets, you can use regular crescent rolls. Just pinch the seams together to form a sheet before proceeding with the recipe.
  • Store leftover sopapillas in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. They’re best reheated in the oven or toaster oven to restore their crispness.
  • Experiment with different toppings! Try chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, or even a sprinkle of chopped nuts.
  • Sopapillas not puffing up? Make sure your oven is fully preheated and that the dough is not too cold. Cold dough won’t rise as well.
  • Sopapillas burning on the bottom? Lower the oven temperature slightly and bake for a longer time. You can also place a baking sheet underneath the baking dish to protect the bottom from direct heat.
  • Sopapillas too dry? Make sure you’re using enough butter. The butter is essential for keeping the sopapillas moist and flavorful.
  • Sopapillas not sweet enough? Add more sugar to the cinnamon-sugar mixture or drizzle with extra honey after baking.
