Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground pork (or chicken, turkey, or tofu)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- 1 cup shredded green cabbage
- 1 cup bean sprouts
- 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (or vegetarian oyster sauce)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
- Cooked rice or noodles (for serving)
Instructions
- Start by gathering all your ingredients. This will make the cooking process smoother and more efficient.
- Wash and chop the green onions, setting aside the white parts for cooking and the green parts for garnish.
- Peel and mince the garlic and ginger. Set them aside in a small bowl.
- Shred the carrots and cabbage if not pre-shredded. You can use a box grater or a food processor for this task.
- Measure out the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, black pepper, and red pepper flakes into a small bowl. This will be your sauce mixture.
- In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground pork (or your chosen protein) to the skillet. Use a spatula to break it apart as it cooks.
- Cook the meat for about 5-7 minutes, or until it is browned and cooked through. Make sure to stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
- Once the meat is cooked, drain any excess fat if necessary. This will help keep the dish from becoming greasy.
- With the meat still in the skillet, add the minced garlic and ginger. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the shredded carrots and cabbage to the skillet. Stir well to combine with the meat and aromatics.
- Continue to stir-fry the mixture for about 3-4 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
- Next, add the bean sprouts and the white parts of the green onions. Stir-fry for an additional 1-2 minutes until the bean sprouts are heated through.
- Pour the prepared sauce mixture over the stir-fried ingredients in the skillet.
- Stir well to ensure that all the ingredients are evenly coated with the sauce.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly and the flavors to meld together.
- Adjust seasoning if necessary, adding more soy sauce or pepper to taste.
- Once the stir fry is cooked to your liking, remove the skillet from heat.
- Transfer the stir fry to a serving dish or individual bowls.
- Garnish with the reserved green parts of the green onions and sprinkle sesame seeds on top for added crunch and flavor.
- Serve the egg roll stir fry over cooked rice or noodles, allowing each person to customize their serving as desired.
Notes
- Feel free to customize the vegetables based on your preference or what you have on hand.
- For a spicier kick, increase the amount of red pepper flakes or add a dash of hot sauce.
