Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup buttermilk, cold
- 2 tablespoons honey
- Extra flour for dusting
- Butter for brushing (optional)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well mixed.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, mix the cold buttermilk and honey until the honey is dissolved.
- Pour the buttermilk mixture into the flour mixture and stir gently until just combined.
- Lightly flour your work surface and turn the dough out onto it. Pat the dough into a rectangle about 1-inch thick.
- Fold the dough in half and pat it down again to about 1-inch thick. Repeat this folding and patting process two more times.
- Roll the dough out to about 1-inch thick one last time and cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter or glass.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter if desired.
- Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Let the biscuits cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
- For best results, make sure your butter and buttermilk are cold.
- This helps create the flaky texture that makes these biscuits so delicious.
- You can also experiment by adding herbs or cheese to the dough for a savory twist!
