Instructions
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk until well blended.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg lightly, then add milk and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
- Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Let the batter rest for 10-15 minutes.
- In a deep pot, pour enough vegetable oil to fill it about 2-3 inches deep. Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare a plate lined with paper towels for draining the fried bites.
- Drop small amounts of batter into the hot oil using a squeeze bottle or spoon, aiming for irregular shapes.
- Fry for 1-2 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and fry for another 1-2 minutes.
- Remove the bites with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Repeat with remaining batter.
- Dust the fried bites with powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar. Serve warm with dipping sauces like chocolate or caramel.
