This Garlic Butter Shrimp and Asparagus dish features succulent shrimp and tender asparagus in a rich garlic butter sauce, making it a quick and flavorful meal ideal for any occasion. Simple to prepare yet impressive, it’s perfect for weeknight dinners or special gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Clean the Shrimp: Rinse the shrimp under cold water, ensuring they are peeled and deveined. Pat dry with a paper towel.
  2. Prepare the Asparagus: Snap off the woody ends of the asparagus and cut into 2-inch pieces.
  3. Season the Shrimp: Toss the shrimp with a pinch of salt and pepper in a bowl.
  4. Heat the Pan: In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium-high heat until foamy.
  5. Sauté the Asparagus: Add asparagus to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  6. Add More Butter: In the same skillet, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and let it melt.
  7. Sauté the Garlic: Add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  8. Cook the Shrimp: Add the seasoned shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes on one side until pink and opaque. Flip and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  9. Add Red Pepper Flakes: If desired, sprinkle in red pepper flakes and stir to combine.
  10. Return Asparagus to the Skillet: Add the sautéed asparagus back to the skillet and toss gently to combine.
  11. Add Lemon Juice: Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the mixture and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
  12. Plate the Dish: Transfer the shrimp and asparagus to a serving platter, drizzling any remaining garlic butter sauce over the top.
  13. Garnish: Sprinkle with chopped parsley for color and freshness.
  14. Serve Immediately: Enjoy hot, paired with rice, pasta, or crusty bread.

Notes

  • Choosing Shrimp: Opt for firm shrimp with a mild ocean scent. Avoid any that smell overly fishy.
  • Asparagus Freshness: Look for bright green, firm asparagus, avoiding any that are wilted or soft.
