Homemade Electrolyte Drink: Refreshing Recipes for Optimal Hydration

  • Author: Maria
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4-6 glasses 1x

Description

This refreshing homemade electrolyte drink is perfect for rehydrating after workouts or on hot days. Made with fresh citrus juices, natural sweeteners, and optional electrolytes, it’s a delicious and healthy alternative to store-bought sports drinks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups of water (filtered or coconut water)
  • 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice (about 23 lemons)
  • 1/4 cup of fresh lime juice (about 23 limes)
  • 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt (or Himalayan salt)
  • 2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda (optional, for added electrolytes)
  • 1/2 cup of orange juice (freshly squeezed is best)
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon of magnesium powder (for extra electrolytes)
  • Optional: Fresh mint leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Start by gathering all your ingredients on the countertop. This makes the process smoother and ensures you have everything you need at hand.
  2. In a large pitcher or mixing bowl, pour in the 4 cups of water. If you’re using coconut water, you can substitute it for regular water for a tropical twist.
  3. Squeeze the juice from the lemons and limes. Roll the fruits on the countertop with your palm before cutting them in half to release more juice. Add the 1/4 cup of lemon juice and 1/4 cup of lime juice to the pitcher.
  4. Add the sea salt and stir gently until fully dissolved.
  5. Add 2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup to the mixture. Adjust to taste and stir until completely dissolved.
  6. If using, add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and stir.
  7. Pour in the 1/2 cup of orange juice and stir well.
  8. If desired, add 1/4 teaspoon of magnesium powder and mix thoroughly.
  9. Taste the drink and adjust sweetness or acidity as needed.
  10. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill and meld flavors.
  11. Before serving, stir the drink again to mix any separation.
  12. Pour into glasses filled with ice and garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired.

Notes

  • This drink can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Keep it covered for freshness.
  • If flavors dull after a day or two, add more citrus juice or sweetener to revive.
  • Freeze some of the drink in ice cube trays for a flavorful boost in future batches.
