Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for brushing)
  • 1/4 cup honey (for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and granulated sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter, honey, and the egg. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to this bowl and stir until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  5. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  7. Once risen, punch down the dough gently to release the air.
  8. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
  9. Shape each piece into a ball and place them in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  10. Cover the rolls and let them rise for about 30-45 minutes, or until puffed up.
  11. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  12. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  13. Mix the softened butter and honey in a small bowl.
  14. Brush the tops of the rolls with the honey butter mixture as soon as they come out of the oven.
  15. Drizzle additional honey over the rolls while still warm.
  16. Allow the rolls to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before serving.
