Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups semisweet and/or milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans recommended)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Mix in the salt and vanilla extract until just combined.
  5. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  7. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) with a spatula or wooden spoon.
  8. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes for better flavor and texture.
  9. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  10. Drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are golden brown and the centers look slightly underbaked.
  12. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes.
  13. Move the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
  14. Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze for up to 3 months.
  15. Microwave cookies for 10-15 seconds to enjoy them warm.

Notes

  • Ensure butter and eggs are at room temperature for best results.
  • Chilling the dough is optional but recommended for thicker cookies.
  • Feel free to customize with your favorite nuts or chocolate varieties.
