Summer Mojito: The Ultimate Refreshing Recipe

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

A classic and refreshing Cuban cocktail with mint, lime, sugar, white rum, and club soda. Perfect for a hot day!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1012 fresh mint leaves
  • 1 lime, cut into 8 wedges
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (or simple syrup to taste)
  • 2 ounces white rum
  • 4 ounces club soda, chilled
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional garnishes: lime slices, mint sprigs, berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries)

Instructions

  1. Muddle the Mint and Lime: In a sturdy glass (a highball glass works best), gently muddle the mint leaves with the lime wedges and sugar. Be careful not to over-muddle the mint.
  2. Add the Rum: Pour the white rum into the glass.
  3. Fill with Ice: Fill the glass almost to the top with ice cubes.
  4. Top with Club Soda: Pour the chilled club soda over the ice, leaving a little space at the top of the glass.
  5. Stir Gently: Use a long spoon to gently stir the ingredients together. Be careful not to over-stir.
  6. Taste and Adjust: Taste your mojito and adjust the flavors to your liking. Add more sugar or lime juice as needed.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Garnish your mojito with a lime slice, a sprig of fresh mint, and berries (if desired). Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Muddle gently to avoid releasing bitter compounds from the mint.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar to your preference.
  • Experiment with different fruits and herbs for flavored mojitos (strawberry, raspberry, basil, etc.).
  • Omit the rum for a virgin mojito.
  • Make a large batch ahead of time by muddling the mint, lime, and sugar, then adding the rum. Add ice and club soda just before serving.
  • White rum is traditional, but a light aged rum can also be used.
  • Spearmint is common, but peppermint or chocolate mint can also be used.
  • Crushed ice creates a slushier drink, while regular ice keeps it colder longer.
  • Get creative with garnishes like berries, cucumber ribbons, or edible flowers.
  • Use sparkling water or add Prosecco for extra fizz.
  • Consider using infused rums for added flavor.
  • Freshly squeezed lime juice is best.
  • Ensure all ingredients are well-chilled.
  • Serve in a beautiful glass.
  • Drink in moderation.
