Description
A classic and refreshing Cuban cocktail with mint, lime, sugar, white rum, and club soda. Perfect for a hot day!
Ingredients
Scale
- 10–12 fresh mint leaves
- 1 lime, cut into 8 wedges
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (or simple syrup to taste)
- 2 ounces white rum
- 4 ounces club soda, chilled
- Ice cubes
- Optional garnishes: lime slices, mint sprigs, berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries)
Instructions
- Muddle the Mint and Lime: In a sturdy glass (a highball glass works best), gently muddle the mint leaves with the lime wedges and sugar. Be careful not to over-muddle the mint.
- Add the Rum: Pour the white rum into the glass.
- Fill with Ice: Fill the glass almost to the top with ice cubes.
- Top with Club Soda: Pour the chilled club soda over the ice, leaving a little space at the top of the glass.
- Stir Gently: Use a long spoon to gently stir the ingredients together. Be careful not to over-stir.
- Taste and Adjust: Taste your mojito and adjust the flavors to your liking. Add more sugar or lime juice as needed.
- Garnish and Serve: Garnish your mojito with a lime slice, a sprig of fresh mint, and berries (if desired). Serve immediately.
Notes
- Muddle gently to avoid releasing bitter compounds from the mint.
- Adjust the amount of sugar to your preference.
- Experiment with different fruits and herbs for flavored mojitos (strawberry, raspberry, basil, etc.).
- Omit the rum for a virgin mojito.
- Make a large batch ahead of time by muddling the mint, lime, and sugar, then adding the rum. Add ice and club soda just before serving.
- White rum is traditional, but a light aged rum can also be used.
- Spearmint is common, but peppermint or chocolate mint can also be used.
- Crushed ice creates a slushier drink, while regular ice keeps it colder longer.
- Get creative with garnishes like berries, cucumber ribbons, or edible flowers.
- Use sparkling water or add Prosecco for extra fizz.
- Consider using infused rums for added flavor.
- Freshly squeezed lime juice is best.
- Ensure all ingredients are well-chilled.
- Serve in a beautiful glass.
- Drink in moderation.
