Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups packed fresh spinach
- 1 cup chopped kale (stems removed)
- 1 cup frozen mango chunks
- 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks
- 1 cup frozen blueberries
- 1/2 cup frozen raspberries
- 1/4 cup chia seeds
- 1/4 cup ground flaxseed meal
- 2 tablespoons hemp seeds
- 2 tablespoons almond butter (or any nut butter)
- 1 tablespoon spirulina powder
- 1 tablespoon maca powder (optional)
- 1 teaspoon ginger, freshly grated
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 4 cups unsweetened coconut water (or filtered water)
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves (optional)
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Wash and Prep the Greens: Thoroughly wash the spinach and kale. Remove the tough stems from the kale and roughly chop it.
- Combine Ingredients in a Blender: Add the spinach, kale, frozen mango, frozen pineapple, frozen blueberries, and frozen raspberries to a high-powered blender.
- Add the Superfood Boosters: Add the chia seeds, ground flaxseed meal, hemp seeds, almond butter, spirulina powder (if using), maca powder (if using), grated ginger, turmeric powder, and cinnamon to the blender.
- Add Liquid and Lemon Juice: Pour in the unsweetened coconut water (or filtered water) and add the juice of one lemon.
- Blend Until Smooth: Blend everything on high speed until completely smooth. Stop and scrape down the sides as needed. Add more liquid if too thick.
- Taste and Adjust: Taste and adjust the flavors as needed. Add sweetener, lemon juice, or greens to taste.
- Add Fresh Herbs (Optional): If using fresh mint and parsley, add them to the blender now and blend until finely chopped and incorporated.
- Prepare Ice Cube Trays or Silicone Molds: Ensure the trays or molds are clean and dry.
- Pour the Smoothie into the Trays/Molds: Carefully pour the smoothie mixture into the ice cube trays or silicone molds, filling each compartment to the top.
- Freeze for at Least 4 Hours: Place the filled ice cube trays or silicone molds in the freezer and freeze for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, until the smoothie cubes are completely solid.
- Transfer to a Freezer-Safe Bag or Container: Once the smoothie cubes are frozen solid, remove them from the ice cube trays or silicone molds. Transfer the frozen smoothie cubes to a freezer-safe bag or container. Label the bag or container with the date and the name of the smoothie.
- Determine the Number of Cubes: Decide how many smoothie cubes you want to use for your smoothie. A good starting point is 4-6 cubes per serving, but you can adjust this based on your preference and the size of your blender.
- Add Cubes to the Blender: Place the desired number of smoothie cubes in your blender.
- Add Liquid: Add about 1/2 cup to 1 cup of liquid to the blender. You can use water, coconut water, almond milk, oat milk, or any other liquid you prefer. The amount of liquid you use will depend on the consistency you want for your smoothie.
- Blend Until Smooth: Blend the smoothie cubes and liquid on high speed until completely smooth. You may need to stop the blender a few times to scrape down the sides with a spatula to ensure all the ingredients are fully incorporated.
- Adjust Consistency: If the smoothie is too thick, add a little more liquid until you reach the desired consistency. If the smoothie is too thin, add a few more smoothie cubes or a handful of frozen fruit.
- Add Additional Ingredients (Optional): If you want to add any additional ingredients to your smoothie, such as protein powder, yogurt, or fresh fruit, add them to the blender now and blend until smooth.
- Pour and Enjoy: Pour the smoothie into a glass or shaker and enjoy immediately! You can also add toppings like granola, nuts, seeds, or fresh fruit.
