Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
- 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 ounces mascarpone cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup ladyfinger cookies (savoiardi)
- Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
- Dark chocolate shavings or grated chocolate, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Brew a strong cup of coffee (dark roast recommended) and let it cool to room temperature.
- If using coffee liqueur, mix it into the cooled coffee.
- In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream on medium speed until soft peaks form (about 3-5 minutes).
- In another bowl, combine the softened mascarpone cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture, starting with a small amount to lighten it, then gradually adding the rest.
- Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture (do not soak).
- Place a layer of dipped ladyfingers at the bottom of your serving cups.
- Spoon a generous layer of the mascarpone cream mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Repeat the layers: another layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by another layer of cream mixture.
- Finish with a final layer of the mascarpone cream on top.
- Cover the cups with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (overnight is best).
- Dust the tops with unsweetened cocoa powder before serving.
- Optionally, add dark chocolate shavings or grated chocolate on top.
- Serve and enjoy the layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and creamy mascarpone!
